Sustainable Living
First and foremost sustainable living means adopting a lifestyle that minimizes damage to the environment. On a deeper level sustainable living means being aware that for every action there is a reaction -- the natural world we are part of is in equilibrium. This second idea isn't easy to understand. Appreciating this idea begins by realizing that humans are part of an ecosystem which encompasses all living things as well as inanimate things like air and water. The interplay between humans, other living things and the environment touches on the key idea of homeostasis. The biological imperative is to find balance in the ecosystem. While a perfect balance is never reached it is our job as humans to be good stewards of the earth and minimize how unbalanced things become in our ecosystem.
Next2Eden contributes to this eco-awareness through videos and articles on healthy living. The catch-all phrase for sustainable living is environmental health. Join Chris Scott, Ph.D. in learning more about healthy living in San Diego and beyond.
